Thorverk harvests two species of seaweed: Rockweed (Ascophyllum nodosum) and Kelp (Laminaria digitata). The A. nodosum is harvested between the months of April and October using specially designed harvester craft. L. digitata is harvested using a specially equipped coaster in late autumn and winter.
Thorverk is the first Icelandic seaweed manufacturer whose product has been certified Organic. This certification confirms that Thorverk fulfils the strictest international standards for sustainability, separation of raw material, traceability of products and contamination control at all stages of the production process.
With 25 years experience of harvesting seaplants from the natural resources of Breidafjordur, supported by scientific research, Thorverk can now look forward to further sales demand.
